Belarus Eyes Crypto Mining as Part of Future Growth Plan
Belarus is positioning cryptocurrency mining as a strategic pillar to reduce dollar dependence and optimize energy utilization. President Alexander Lukashenko has called for clearer regulatory frameworks, framing digital assets as a catalyst for economic diversification.
Speaking at a meeting on energy infrastructure, Lukashenko highlighted the dual appeal of crypto mining: absorbing surplus electricity while attracting foreign capital. "Cryptocurrency is probably one of the options," he noted, underscoring the need to explore alternatives to dollar-dominated systems.
The administration is evaluating mining alongside electric transport and smart construction as potential growth vectors. While acknowledging market volatility, Lukashenko emphasized long-term strategic value: "Some volatility... Well, there probably will be. But nothing ventured, nothing gained."
